Seo Architect collaborated with MG Architecture Urbanism to convert an existing retail space into a nail salon and spa in Manhattan’s Upper West Side. The scope included plumbing and mechanical engineering, with a challenge being the integration of ventilation systems.

The project’s long, narrow footprint posed significant spatial planning challenges. State regulations require both general ventilation and local exhaust (source capture) at each manicure and pedicure station. To comply, the design incorporated a downdraft exhaust system for each nail station while ensuring adequate makeup air.

Through strategic spatial planning and precise coordination with engineering systems, the space transformed into a functional, regulation-compliant space that delivers a clean, open atmosphere and enhances the overall customer experience.
